Employment Process

Each school district is unique its hiring procedures, and one must apply directly to the district of interest for employment. You may be able to contact the principals directly concerning employment in their schools, or you may have to complete the employment process at the district office before a principal can interview you. Also, the number of interviews you must complete may vary. The state requires fingerprints and a completed background investigation for all teachers once they are employed. However, a few districts require the complete background investigation before you can be interviewed. It is best to contact each district to determine the specific employment procedures.

Listed below are documents and information that a district may require:

  • Resume
  • Three to five letters of reference with original signature, reference forms with original signature or the names, addresses, and phone numbers of three to five individuals for references. You should check with each district to determine the required documentation for references.
  • Official copies of all college transcripts
  • Copies of teaching certificates
  • A Statement of Status of Eligibility from the Florida Department of Education, Bureau of Educator Certification
The posting of teacher vacancies is the responsibility of each school district. The services offered through www.teachInFlorida.com and www.ProudtoServeAgain.com allow districts the ability to post vacancies for their school. School districts also post vacancies on the district’s web site and links to these sites are provided through the TeachInFlorida web site.
