As the Florida Teacher Liaison, my task is to provide you with a constant connection to the Department of Education. I am here to answer your questions, deliver your messages to policymakers, and provide you with information on programs and legislation that affect Florida educators. Save the date for the 3rd annual one-of-a-kind training workshop (for teachers only) about Florida's native, non-native and invasive plants. This year, the UF/IFAS Center for Aquatic Plants & DEP Bureau of Invasive Plant Management will be sponsoring 24 curious, enthusiastic, and dedicated science teachers who are serious about taking their new knowledge back to school to share with students and colleagues.* Forty-five (45) in-service points will be awarded for completion of the training. Participants will be chosen by a committee of science teachers and staff from the UF/IFAS Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plants. The Florida Department of Education is currently seeking nominations for the 2009-2010 State Instructional Materials Committees. The Committees will ensure that adopted instructional materials are aligned to Florida’s Next Generation Sunshine State Standards and to Florida's Workforce Education Curriculum Frameworks. Appointments for state instructional materials committees will be made in the areas of Business Technology Education, Computer Education, and Marketing and Mathematics Education. Classroom teachers must be certified in an area directly related to the academic area being considered for adoption. All committee appointments are for 18 months. Parts I & II of the Nomination Form are due by January 5, 2009.
