School Concurrency (Educational Facilities and Growth Management)

Florida’s school districts have been working closely with counties and cities to better link planning for school facilities with planning for future growth and development (“growth management” or “comprehensive” plans). In 2005, the Florida Legislature strengthened state laws that guide this planning coordination to require “school concurrency.” By December 2008 all counties, cities and school districts in Florida must have school concurrency systems in place.

The Office of Educational Facilities provides guidance to districts for development of educational plant surveys and five-year work plans, as well as technical support to help districts to meet growth management and school concurrency requirements.
