Alternate Test Dates for Examinees with Religious Exceptions
If you cannot test on a Saturday because that day is considered the Sabbath in your religion, an alternative test date may be arranged. Alternate test dates must be requested at the time the application is submitted:
(1) Register to test. If you register online, please indicate when asked that you will be requesting an alternate test date. If you register by mail, fill in the oval in Block 21 on the application.
(2) Submit an Alternative Testing Arrangements Request Form. This form can be found in the Bulletin or on the FTCE/FELE Program website. With the form, include a letter from an official of your religious institution. The letter must
-
be written on official letterhead stationery of the religious institution (including name of institution, address, and telephone number),
-
state your affiliation with the religious institution,
-
state that you cannot attend a Saturday test administration because that day is considered the Sabbath, and
-
be no more than one year old. Copies may be used to register for different test administrations if the original letter is no more than one year old.
The form and letter must be submitted each time register to test. If your request is approved, you will be notified of an alternative test date (usually the Sunday or Monday following the original test date). Please note that not all test sites offer alternative dates. If your first- and second-choice sites do not offer alternative dates, you will be assigned to the closest available site that does.
Examinees with Disabilities
According to rule 6A-4.0021(6)(a)(b) FAC , a person with a disability means any person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, has a record of such an impairment, or is regarded as having such an impairment as defined in the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 35,104(1)(2)(3)(4) . Examinees requesting special arrangements must be certified as having a disability by a licensed psychologist or physician as having a disability that substantially limits one or more major life activities. Any documentation presented must describe the disability.
Special arrangements, such as extra time, may be made for examinees who have visual impairments, hearing impairments, physical disabilities, or specific learning disabilities. Reasonable accommodations will be provided where possible.
If you need special accommodations for a disability, please complete the following steps:
(1) Register to test. If you register online, please indicate when asked that you will be requesting special accommodations. If you register by mail, fill in the oval in Block 20 on the application.
(2) Submit an Alternative Testing Arrangements Request Form stating the specific accommodations you are requesting. This form can be found in the Bulletin or on the FTCE/FELE Program website. You must submit a new form every time you register to test.
(3) Submit all required documentation, on official letterhead stationery (including physician name, address, and telephone number), from a medical doctor or licensed psychologist (including license number). The documentation must meet the following criteria:
-
Describes and attests to the specific disability and that the disability substantially limits one or more major life activities; test data must be interpreted and summarized.
-
Is dated within the past three years when first presented. It will be kept on file and is valid for use by the FTCE/FELE program office for three years after it is received.
NOTE: If you do not register to test and submit your request and required documentation by the registration deadline, accommodations may not be provided.
