Rutherford High School Senior Wins State Voice Competition
Rutherford High School senior Darius Jackson in Panama City, Fla., recently won first place in the Grady-Rayam Negro Spiritual Competition in Lakeland, Fla. Darius received a college tuition assistance grant for $3,000 and a concert tour of Tampa, Orlando, Miami, and Jacksonville with the chance of performing in Washington, DC.
The Grady-Rayam Prize in Sacred Music is a collegiate scholarship awarded annually by The "Negro Spiritual" Scholarship Foundation, Inc. It is named for a deceased Roman Catholic bishop Thomas J. Grady and for Curtis Rayam Jr., voice teacher and renowned opera singer.
