34th Annual Florida Association of Partners in Education Conference-April 9-11, 2008 (Jacksonville)
The Florida Association of Partners in Education aims to increase the availability of resources for the formation and support of effective partnerships between educators and community stakeholders; increase the awareness about the importance of partnerships for promoting student success; and promote the importance of effective partnerships to policymakers. This conference is packed with cutting-edge ideas and new programs. More than 500 conference attendees representing the volunteer sector from business, community, government and schools focus on the positive impact community involvement initiatives can have on education and student achievement.

Florida’s 3rd Annual Bullying Prevention Conference April 24-25, 2008 (Orlando)
The Florida Department of Education is holding Florida’s 3rd Annual Bullying Prevention Conference on April 24-25, 2008, in Orlando. The purpose of this conference is to raise awareness about the issue of bullying and related school safety issues and provide skill-building opportunities to those who work with students.  The conference is open to prevention specialists, school guidance counselors, teachers, principals, Safe and Drug-Free Coordinators, school health educators, school psychologists/social workers, School Resource Officers and law enforcement, staff development directors, deans of discipline, student service directors, PTA members, children and family mental health counselors, school advisory council members, school nurses, school board members, parents, extended day/after school staff, etc.

Just Read, Florida! K-12 Leadership Conference: June 29 – July 2, 2008 (Orlando)
The 2008 conference offers a variety of opportunities for educators and administrators. More than 300 breakout sessions will be geared toward providing essential information to school leadership in the area of reading and literacy. There will be numerous sessions presented by fellow principals, reading coaches, and district leaders, giving you the opportunity to hear about the great literacy initiatives taking place in schools throughout our state.

National Staff Development Council (NSDC) Summer Conference: July 13-16, 2008 (Orlando)
This conference, for teacher leaders and the administrators who support them, focuses on the following: school-based staff development, learning communities, data and evaluation, facilitation and leadership skills, closing the gap, and mentoring and induction. Keynote speakers feature Yvonne Chan, award-winning principal; Richard Ellenburg, 2008 Florida Teacher of the Year, Louanne Johnson, author of “Dangerous Minds,” and Cathy Owens, NSDC Director of Learning. Registration is $395 for the three-day conference. Register by March 31 and receive a $50 discount. Online registration opens January 2008.

National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC): October 29-November 2, 2008 (Tampa)
This conference is open to teachers, coordinators, administrators, guidance counselors, researchers, parents and grandparents.

Opening keynote is Daniel H. Pink, author of A Whole New Mind, which reveals the six abilities today’s professional must master in an outsourced, automated world. Mini-keynote sessions will focus on panels of national experts discussing “Differentiation – The Heart of the Matter” and “The Role of Non-Verbal Assessment in Identifying and Serving English Language Learners.”
