Best Practices in Florida's Colleges

The Best Practice Web site provides information to help college leaders develop innovative solutions to challenges which face their institutions. The Web site may be utilized to learn about new techniques, improve processes, create new programs, make current programs more effective and enhance outreach. This site also offers an opportunity for users to access information on successful programs/strategies and share knowledge. Information regarding exemplary programs within Florida’s College system may be submitted to the Division by following the link "Submit Best Practice" below.

Miami Dade College
Summary:
The First-Year Academic and College Life Experience F.A.C.E. program has proven to be a model retention program for Miami Dade College North Campus. F.A.C.E. has connected students to the college environment aided in their psychosocial development and contributed to their overall satisfaction in their postsecondary education. Upon admission into the college the first-year student participates in a carefully articulated series of orientations workshops and symposiums that are aligned with the Miami Dade College Learning Outcomes.

Northwest Florida State College
Summary:
Strategy to Enrich Student Experiences by Utilizing Free Clinics for Clinical Sites Faculty in the RN to BSN nursing program at Northwest Florida State College NWFSC have developed a new vision for student clinical experiences by incorporating use of clinics that provide free health care as clinical sites.

Equine Studies Program Without Horses
Central Florida Community College
Summary:
The college initiated this horseless program in 2004 at the request of local business owners seeking entry-level managerial prospects to put into farm management positions. CFCC chose to create a unique partnership model whereby the college would not own horses but would utilize the 700 local horse farms for hands-on learning opportunities. Additionally the CFCC program would focus on developing employable skills in growth areas of the equine industry such as farm management and the expanding role of the service industry to provide contract labor massage therapists competition managers supplement sales physical therapists show grooms sales agents etc.
