Take Stock in Children
For the past decade, Take Stock in Children has provided scholarships, mentors and hope to Florida's low-income, at-risk children. These students must stay in school, maintain good grades, exhibit good behavior, remain crime and drug-free and meet with their mentors once a week. Chancellor Will Holcombe stated that “62% of Florida’s high school graduates who continue on to postsecondary education get their start in a community college, and this partnership will open the door to the American dream of attaining a higher education and better paying jobs for these students through this partnership.”
The announcement was made at the 2008 Rally in Tally. Governor Charlie Crist and Lieutenant Governor Jeff Kottkamp along with Speaker designate Ray Samson and Commissioner Eric Smith were in support of the Rally. View the Rally photos here. This annual event took place on the steps of the Old Capitol in Tallahassee, March 25, 2008. This exciting event honored over 1,600 students and more than 500 mentors were involved in the program.
This partnership is eligible for Dr. Philip Benjamin Match. Once the match is received The Foundation will purchase the Florida 2 +2 College Prepaid plans in names of students participating in the program and returned to their local agencies.
